Live from the stage/my workspace
Mara:Explained
I majored in Interactive Design with a focus on marketing and social media management, graduating from Drexel University. During my time at Drexel I helped plan local DIY events and showcases, and built a large network of musicians while working on music social media project Souvinear.
I balance a day job with several projects and organizations I am affiliated with, including Thotcrime, Alien Heart Records, and my personal branding and music. I have been working independently with artists, building out their brand and creating logos, album art, t-shirt designs, and audio/video work.
My creative approach—no matter the medium— is to make sure the best qualities of who I’m working with reach their audience. An important part of design is creating a unique visual language that appeals to the client’s base. I take the unique parts of whomever’s brand I’m working with and accentuate them to fit their needs, retaining their identity whilst simultaneously pushing and expanding their reach.
The best way to create a solid design for whoever your working is understanding the market you’re trying to appeal to, and the best way to do that is through copious amounts of research. When you’ve finally understood who you’re creating for, that’s when you build out unique and innovative work.
